Book of Eli - Different look and feel

The Book of Eli is a great movie to watch.. watch it especially to see Denzel Washington's portrayal of Eli who has survived the apocalypse of the world. The story starts with him hunting a cat for meat and then walking into a home in the middle of nowhere where he rests for the night, he uses a old battery to charge his Ipod, he seems to be on a mission and he sharpens his knife and also looks for nice pair of shoes that he picks from the bodies of other dead people. The story moves on to a old town like atmosphere where a mob lord Carnegie played by Gary Oldman is running the town by power, he has his entourage of mobsters.. he has a blind wife and a daughter played by Mila Kunis. The story has some twists and turns and its then established that Carnegie is looking for a book that would help him rule the world and after some searching it is found that Eli is protecting that book and his only aim to travel west where he would be able to deliver the book to the right owners.. The story at the end reveals what is the book the Eli is protecting more than his life and what happens at the end.

The only issue that I have with this movie is that fact that we do not know how the end of the world happened and how some people alone survived, a small mention of the fact that we were in post apocalypse world would have helped.

Mila Kunis is refreshingly better looking and appealing in this movie, Denzel and Gary again prove that they part of a very special league of actors in Hollywood.. Watch it for all the action sequences, Denzel claims he did all the stunts on his own.. and if what he said is true, the action sequences are really good. Gives you feeling of watching Kill Bill in a different flavor. But its entertaining.

Book of Eli actually has a nice message telling us that we have time to protect our planet else we would end up fighting for small things in life like water, food, clothing etc.. It also shows the power of human will and what it can accomplish.

Avatar - Glorious, Greatness & The Best !!!

Before I even tell you more about the movie, let me put this on record, Avatar has taken story telling to a whole different level. It has now changed the way we will watch movies in the years to come. James Cameron who gave us movies like Titanic and Terminator had thought of this concept and wrote this story almost 15 years back and he is said to have waited till 2007 for the technology to catch up for his dream project. I am glad he did not leave this idea halfway thru, because we would have been deprived of one of the greatest movie of all time. Avatar also is the costliest movie ever made till date. As per a news report recently, Avatar already made over 1 billion dollars within the first month of its release.

The story is set in the future years when earth's existence depends on a source of energy available in another planet called Pandora. The only problem is that Pandora is inhabited by indigenous creatures called Navis who speak their own language and are defending their motherland with Bows and arrows against the evil humans who have bombs, robots and mining equipment. Pandora's air is not breathable by humans and they are outnumbered and not well equipped to fight the Navis in their homeland. This leads to scientists creating avatars of humans like Navis. The procedure is simple, the avatar would take over while the humans stay asleep in an incubator. Jake Sully is the main character of this movie who is a marine who has been injured and lost his legs, he his given a chance to go to pandora as his brother dies and the folks on Pandora do not want the Avatar created for his dead brother to go a waste. Upon reaching Pandora, Jake Sully starts learning about the place and gets used to living his life through his avatar. Till this moment Pandora and the movie looks like any other usual Sci-fi movie, but moments after Jake Sully and his mates are taken to Pandora's forests to get used to the terrain.. the ride begins.. initially Jake makes a wrong move even after repeated warnings by the resident scientists and lands up being changes by a panther/dragon mix creature which is so cool. After escaping such encounters, Jakes avatar is separated from the group and they have to leave him in the jungle and go back to the base. Jakes avatar who is chased by wild creatures is saved by Neytiri a Navi who lets him live because the local god shows her a sign that Jake is a free spirit. Jake follows Neytiri and one thing leads to another and over a period of time Jake starts feeling for the Navis and feels that what the humans are doing and what he is being sent into the forest. I do not want to divulge too much of the story as I want you guys to watch the movie without fail. The movie ends with an epic battle between the humans and the Navis led by Jake Sully and Neytiri.

Now to Pandora: James Cameron has set up this planet with his imagination and creativity, this is proof that the human mind can imagine and create anything. Right from the start, Pandora is a large planet, with great dense forests, crazy plans, large trees, large creatures, dragons, light insects, small dragons, large panthers, dogs & Master dragons to floating mountains, large oceans, long rivers, very tall mountains and the list goes on. Watch it and you would be spellbound by the sheer brilliance and beauty of this make belief planet !!

The cast of Avatar is also great. Jake Sully played by Sam Worthington, Neytiri played by Zoe' Saldana, Trudy played by Michelle Rodriguez & Col Miles played by Steven Lang stand out in each scene.

I would recommend that you watch the movie only on 3D IMAX to experience this movie. If you cannot get to an IMAX 3D then at least try to watch it in 3D. However you watch it, its going to be a great movie watching experience.

Armored - Great cast but an average action movie

Armored is the story of a crew of officers at a security company that provides Armored trucks to transport money for banks. Everything is going great, good buddies, good team work, fun and laughter until one day when the crew plans to take 42million cash with a fool proof plan, all the crew members buy in to the plan and then during execution of the same plan there is a sudden change of a plans due to an unexpected witness and the plan starts heading south.

There are some good action sequences but nothing out of the world or something that we have not seen in other action movies. Overall a good movie, some of the greatest cast for a gang from Matt Dillon, Jean Reno, Laurence Fishburne and a few more.

I personally liked the performances of Matt Dillon and Laurence Fishburne. They are the reason why you would continue to see this movie till the end..

If you like a quick action movie with not much expectation then this one is for you !

Obsessed - More skin less story !

Obsessed is a film with some thrills and good moments but lacks in the script and the story. Derek Charles played by Idris Elba has a great job, a great family. It all starts when a new temp Lisa beautifully played by Ali Larter who is sexy and hot joins Derek's office and tries to seduce Derek who is her boss, the story then takes wild turns where Derek is chased by Lisa where ever he goes finally leading to troubles at home for him.

After much twists and turns the story finally ends up by Lisa getting killed in a freak accident at Derek's home when she fights a super strong wife of Derek played by Beyonce.

No one still knows why Derek was being chased by Lisa and why does she keep coming back to haunt him. I guess the director was thinking that the audience will forget the logic by just showing some legs and skin. The problem with this movie is that it had the making of a great movie but just loses out on the story front.

Overall the movie has its thrills but stops short of creating that fizz that the trailers showed us !

The Air I Breathe - Just like Crash but a not as good as it !

I watched "The Air I Breathe" today at home, its another film modeled after movies like Crash. There are 4 fables/stories told which interconnect at one point in the story of the movie, many directors have started taking this route. The 4 stories depict Love, Pleasure, Sadness & Joy. The actors include some famous names like Kevin Bacon, Forest Whitaker, Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
in short this are stories of a banker that discovers true happiness, a mobster that finds hope, a celebrity that sees life lose its luster and a doctor struggles with his love and affection. If you liked Crash you might just like this movie too, but overall it is an average movie because in certain places the movie becomes boring.

I liked it overall, its a movie thats worth watching at home on DVD when you have time with you !
